Final Exam
By:Casey Thomas
1. Pick three and explain their function and role in a modern computer. Explain using examples from your work of the semester:
Operating system:An operating system allows a person to communicate with their computer. It takes everything you type and transfers it into the computer so you can see it on the screen. Also when you move your mouse the operating system moves the pointer on the screen in unisine. Without an operating system the computer has no use.
Like the computers we worked on and had to put on operating systems because they were useless without them.
Monitor: The monitor plays another key role in working with a computer. The monitor shows you everything you are doing on the computer. It does this by taking all the stuff that the computer says in computer talk and changes it into an image we are able to view. Every class when working with our computer, you went over and got a monitor
because again without it a computer is some what useless.
Mouse: The mouse is important to acess all of your computer easily. Sure there are ways to open everything with a keyboard but that is much more difficult them moving the mouse, point, and click. Mouses now have detectors that when it feels the mouse move it will move the pointer alowing you to acess all of your computer in a short painless fashion. I personally have worked with a mouse for our first project the research one and have gone into the guts of a new mouse and added an led which to me feels way better than just a regular mouse.
2. Discuss working within the class group to solve problems and gather information about your projects. How could you use this experience or recreate it to do work in the future?
Working with a large class was quite helpful. If you needed to know something but Mr.Connors was to busy to help, is no excuse to not do something. You can just easily go to another person in the class and ask for help. Personally I have done this and it is a whole lot better than sitting and waiting. When I do grow up (maybe) I most likely will work in an office. If I can have the same atmosphere in this class in my office than it seems so much better than just working alone.
3. Describe the most significant challenge you overcame while working on computers this semester. What did you do to overcome the challenge?
The mose significant challenge I over came was the fear of working with the insides of a mouse. This was solo project so I had no partner to lean on. I up to then had no experience with the inside of the mouse. When I actually over came my fear by just getting into it and the help of my former partner Connor saying I could do it helped me get started. When I actually got into the mouse and realized it wasn't that hard. I learned that were to put my led by touching it to the back of the board where it said C1 or capacitor one. Then since the led got hot I got a transistor to add. I added one end of the transistor into the hole by soudering the back of board, attached the other end to the led, repeated soudering the back of the board again, and adding the other end of the led in the hole. I then positioned it where I wanted (under the hole I made with platic over it). I pluged in the mouse and it light up like my heart did when I saw it light up.
4. What was the most important thing you learned from this class? Explain.
Working with the inside of the mouse is the most beneficial of all things I have done this semester. This can help me later and save me money by not just buying a mouse and wasting my hard earned money.
5. What do you wish you learned from this class?
I wished that I could come out of this class with more handyman qualities than I had before I came. I can truly say that I succeded.
